UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (DC News Now) — Students attending Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) will soon have dozens of renovated school libraries to help with learning.
Non-profit organization Heart of America CEO Jill Hardy Heath says it is a wonderful multi-million-dollar partnership with PGCPS to help transform 46 libraries in the school system.
“We are thrilled to be launching the Prince George’s County public school library initiative. That means within the next six to eight months, we will be renovating 46 school libraries across the district, which is a good portion of the school portfolio,” Hardy Heath said.
The renovated libraries will feature many high-tech upgrades, including smart TVs, computer stations, 3D printers, robotic kits, and 72,000 new books.
“School libraries are not what they used to be; they are not the libraries of the past that are quiet and dark. They are libraries full of activity, discovery, and modern technology, and great resources, including books,” Hardy Heath added.
The library transformations will each take 12-14 weeks, and school officials estimate the project to be completed in three phases, with the final phase wrapping up in 2026.
